Hip Pain
Hip pain is a common condition that can affect people of all ages, making activities such as walking, climbing stairs, or even sleeping uncomfortable. It can develop suddenly after an injury or gradually over time. Pain is commonly felt in the groin and/or around the hip. Common causes of hip pain include:
Arthritis – age-related wear and tear causing stiffness and discomfort
Muscle or ligament strain – often from sports, heavy lifting, or overuse
Poor posture or gait issues – placing extra strain on the hips
Lower back or pelvic problems – which can refer pain into the hips
Previous injuries – which may affect balance, movement, or
Bursitis and/or tendinopathy - often associated with pain laying on your side.
Hip pain may be felt directly in the joint, or as aching, stiffness, or referred pain into the lower back, thigh, or groin.
At our Sheffield osteopathy clinic, we use a whole-body approach to treatment. Osteopathy for hip pain may include:
Gentle techniques to reduce muscle tension and stiffness around the hip
Improving mobility in the hip, pelvis, and lower back
Supporting recovery from injuries and strains
Addressing posture and alignment to reduce unnecessary strain on the hips
Providing personalised exercises and advice to strengthen the area and support long-term recovery
Our goal is not only to relieve discomfort but also to restore normal movement and reduce the likelihood of pain returning.
